Mat's words at Gilda's funeral.

How do you like your matzo brie?
In pieces or a pancake?
With cinnamon and sugar or salt and pepper?

Grandma made matzo brie during Passover, it was one of her things. It's a demonstration of one of the qualities that I loved and respected, her traditional values, but the choices she offered were also indicative of her. She would accommodate your choice of sweet pieces or savory pancake just as she was accommodating, supportive and respectful of other choices you made in life.

She may have been accommodating on matzo Brie but there was only one way to make brisket, her way with Manischewitz and love.

She was the Strong matriarch of our family. Fiercely proud of her progeny
My dad, and nancy , Neil Jill Dan and I were her pride and joy.
Pictures of us are lined up on her living room walls like the hall of presidents.

She was Hard working, she had a job when most women stayed at home.
She was tenacious, by nurture and nature, she had to finish separating the eggs for the passover dessert after her water broke with my dad, before going to the hospital!
But she had a wild side too, She wasn't afraid to point out where she "gunned it " on Lyons Ave on the way to the beauty parlor.

I've spoke before at Grandpa Harold’s, and my Grandma France’s funerals before about how I believe people live on not just by their blood, genes, or even our memories of them. But more importantly they live on in what they taught us and what we learn from them and pass on to our children.

Gilda lives on in perhaps the most important way, the guiding light of what it means to be a family.
