Farmers Market Baskets

Here is the program that I have started at CNN. It has been a great sucess so far!



A Kennesaw couple is saving their community money on fresh produce with a unique system that is similar to Community Supported Agriculture but less expensive and with more options.

Kristina and Tom Plauche started Farmer's Market Baskets in their garage but moved into a Cobb County warehouse as their businessbegan to grow.

The Plauche's buy large shipments of produce twice a week at the State Farmer's Market in Forest Park and fill baskets for pickup and delivery to hundreds of area consumers. "We have suppliers down there and we talk to the suppliers the day before to find out what's available, what's fresh, what's good," said Tom Plauche.

Members can pick up a fresh market basket on Thursday at the company's Kennesaw warehouse, and even volunteer to fill baskets to get a discount. The company also delivers to drop-off points around metro Atlanta with a minimum of 10 orders.

Crystal Collins, who authors the Thethriftymama.com blog, recommends the service. "Compared to the store I'm saving $25 to $30 each week,' she said.

Kristina Plauche said most customers will save about 50 percent compared to grocery store prices. "We are a co-op so we are not committed to a specific farm. We can buy from all sorts of different farmers to get the quality and variety for everything to be consistent," she explained. Typical Community Supported Agriculture groups make weekly purchases from just one farm and members receive whatever is available and in season.

The Farmer's Market Basket will feature more goods from local farms later this spring and even from backyard growers. The owners also plan to offer canning classes.

Ohio bound

How do you keep Millie busy on the airplane? Pizza Crust! Thank goodness we all all three seats for both plane rides to and from Ohio. We left Atlanta around 8:30pm (30 mins past Millie's bedtime). The flight is only an 1:12 so we thought we might get away with it. We knew we were playing with fire. She did okay until right around 9pm when there was a big ole meltdown. We got lots of looks (stares) from other passengers and stewardesses but there wasn't much we could do. Alot of people giving us suggestions and pity looks as everyone deboarded the plane. Had they all forgotten the other 60 mins that she was an angel?

Despite the meltdown, we knew it was going to be a good trip to Ohio when we left from gate "T2"!!!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Did you appreciate a teacher last week? May 3-7 was National Teacher Appreciation Week. As a daughter of two teachers, I know how much teachers need to be thanked every once in awhile for what they do! Millie's teachers were no exception.

On Monday it was "Bring Your Teacher an Apple Day". We got all three ladies different apple-y candles.

On Tuesday they had "Sheltering Arms Café" where the Break Room was set-up with coffee, tea, and pastries.

On Wednesday it was "Stress Free Day" with Atlanta Spine Center. The teachers got free massages and consultation.

On Thursday it was "Thank You Thursday". Millie made each teacher a card (see picture).

On Friday there was a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. We got each teacher a gift card to Cold Stone Creamery for an ice cream treat!

Pee Pee on the Potty!

Last Thursday we learned that Millie peed on the potty once at school. It was a quick pee but everyone celebrated and it was a very exciting day.

I picked Millie up on Tuesday and she had peed on the potty TWICE at school! Very very exciting! Everyone made a big deal about it and we all cheered and talked about it all night. So, thanks to my friend Katie, we are going with the pantless potty training when at home. It didn't work over the weekend but that was the first time we had given it a try. So last night, after we came home from school, it was pants off time! She told me she had to peed like 4 times but never actually went. But at least she is trying! So that explains why she is pantless in this video. That and the fact that she is Mat's daughter. I think we all know that Mat is pantless (boxers on) as SOON as he walks in the door.

It's a Chloe thing...

Chloe started a tradition with my folks and it kinda spread like wildfire. Pancakes of varying colors. So before we left for Ohio, I was trying not to buy many groceries so we had an empty fridge. I decided to have Breakfast for Dinner which is a Dave Davis specialty. Mat was working so it was a girls dinner. Pink chocolate pancakes were on the menu! She enjoyed them! Watching TV

Up until now, Millie hasn't watch much TV. Initially we didn't want her to watch TV but after awhile we learned that she actually wasn't to into watching at all. Sometimes we would flip the TV on during the weekends but honestly, during the week, there is no time to even turn the TV on. Recently (within the past 2 weeks), she has been grabbing the remote and saying "Play!". We ask her what she wants to watch and she says "Sesame!". It's the only thing she has ever watched so we are not surprised.

So after work on Monday, we came home. I was exhausted (maybe cause I am 32 weeks pregnant) and Millie was tired too. So we colored and watched Sesame.



The coloring video is really interesting. Look at how she grabs a certain crayon and just makes a little doodle and puts the crayon back down. Grabs another and does the same thing. This is much different than she has done in the past with just scribbling long lines. Also very funny that she thought the white crayon was broken!

They do themes that span a 2 week period at school. Last week was birds and they did all kinds of bird & nest things. It was alot of fun and Millie is "tweet tweet"-ing all the birds she sees. For these next two weeks, the theme is Flowers & Mother Day. I came to pick Millie up yesterday and the teachers were wearing these flower hats and the kids were having a great time. I took some fun videos as we were leaving yesterday. You can tell that all the kids (Millie included) call her "Mia". Christina (or the kids call her "Tina") is in the green shirt. And Bailey (Millie's BFF) is in the white shirt and blue rain boots.

Cooking Time

A kitchen set and some food have been added to the playroom. Big shout out to Grandma and Grandpa T!! Millie had a great time playing this morning. A few injuries due to falling pots and pans. But she recovered quickly. And like any and all Davis ladies, she leaves all the cabinet doors open! To see all the pictures, click here.

2 things

I have to share two cute things that have happened in the past couple days.

One is that Millie's class gave her a book about the arrival of her new little brother. It's a cute flip book called "My Dog, My Cat, My Mama and Me". It was very sweet of the teachers.

The second thing is that on Millie's daily report today, she had a cute note written. This week's theme is Birds. So here goes...
She ate Green Beans, Apple Sauce and Turkey/Noodles.
Millie had a terrific Tuesday :-)
Today during bonding group we worked on our ABC's, we worked on puzzles & shapes and also we glued feathers on our birds.
Millie loved playing in housekeeping with her "BFF" Bailey. It was funny, today someone took something from Bailey. Millie got up and said "don't cry" to Bailey. Then went to the other child and said "not nice".

That's our girl! How adorable!

Music Class (April 24)

First haircut

Millie had her first professional haircut this weekend at Pigtails & Crewcuts. They had a little play area for kids which Millie enjoy. We were worried as we had heard that there might be a 2 hour wait time! But luckily the wait wasn't that long. She was actually pretty good although she didn't want to wear the zebra print robe. I think the cute ended up being really cute. It was more of a trim but you get the point. I didn't go with the whole "first haircut" package since I have already cut her hair myself before and saved some locks.

Another dinner out

Another dinner out with the Shahriari's! They had a great time playing outside of Vickerys. Meagan is not even 11 months yet and she is walking all over the place!

Veggie/Fruit Basket

So I started this great program at CNN. I had to get 10 people participate but that turned out to be alot easier than I thought! Each week (or every other week) we each get an individual fresh fruit and veggie basket delivered to CNN from Farmers Market Baskets! We never know what we are going to get until the day before. Yesterday was our first delivery and here is a picture of what I received in my basket.



I was participating in another CSA so I have some left overs from that. I have so many fruits and veggies in my house right now, I laid them all out on my table to get an assessment and figure out what meals I was going to make this week. And yes, two meals include Boy Choy!! Bok Choy stir fry and Chicken Fried Rice with boy choy in it (Thanks Margie!).

Gpa and Gma Tainow visit

A childhood friend of mine was getting married in Chicago and the Tainow's swooped in for some weekend babysitting duties! From the looks of it, they had a great time!

They went to the Oakhurst Children's Garden, Music Class, enjoyed a visit from Jon/Terry's friend Ivan/Judith, they went to the Atlanta Zoo, visited with the Navarro's and had an overall great weekend! It was great that they were able to come down and spend some time with Millie and it certainly helped us out a great deal!

Multicultural Day

Thursday was Multicultural Day at Millie's school. Millie's classroom is representing Haiti. The teachers made these cute shirts for all the kids. The classroom was filled with allllllll kinds of food representing Haiti. The kids went from room to room filling up on all kids of food from other countries. We heard Haiti was the best!

Reading Awareness

Wednesday was Reading Awareness day. The book that Millie's class represented was Joshua's Night Whispers. In honor of this book, the class all dressed in pajamas! I didn't get there in time to get everyone in their pj's but it was super cute to see! Millie is, of course, sitting by her "BFF" Bailey. They are best buds.
