July 19 / Family Pictures

We picked this overcast day to do our family pictures. However by the time we found the perfect spot and got all set up, "Here Comes The Sun". So we are a bit squinty but I think the pictures turned out great. Here are the highlights but click here to see all the pictures.

We made it to the beach!

After a little bit of traffic, we are finally here and all settled in, ready to hit the beach tomorrow! It has been so fun watching the girls play together. I attached a picture of our family on a family vacation (with friends) in Hilton Head, 1985.

We went everywhere on bikes. Hilton Head has great bike paths and it was so much fun to ride around town on bikes. And on the beach!

Observations about Millie

As of this week, Millie has moved out of the infant room and into the "Backup Toddler" room. I don't know all the logistics of the reason it's called "backup" but rest assured she is having a great time. They have lots of books, a play area, the go outside for "Wet Wednesday", they go on walks in the wagons, they have a slide in the classroom. All kinds of fun stuff. They even do a art project about once a week! And they take lots of pictures which is great! I will try and scan those as they come in. We had our follow up with our teacher Ms. Chantal in the infant room. Here are her notes about Millie. Enjoy.

Sense of Self
Developmental Summary: Millie is very vocal both with teachers and other children. She can be heard telling us “no” and “stop” several times throughout the day. She is able to feed herself and drink the majority of her mil from her sippy cup.
June 2009: Millie tells Ms. Chantal “no” when asked if she would like to finish her cup rather than bottle.

Social Relations
Developmental Summary: Millie has adapted will to this classroom environment. She feels comfortable with all of her teachers and seeks them out for comfort. She also has form relationships with several students. Millie generally place with the older children and seeks out Pearl regularly.
June 2009: Millie seeks out Pearl and plays with her in the toy house.

Creative Representation
Developmental Summary: Millie enjoys looking at picture books. When looking at a book with Ms. Chantal she talks a lot about the pictures and points at them.
June 2009: Millie gazes at a picture and tells Ms. Chantal “no” while looking at a picture book

Movement
Developmental Summary: Millie loves to climb on things throughout the room. She pulls up on several objects and is attempting to stand on her own.
June 2009: Millie dives head first into the cushy pool in the classroom.

Communication and Language
Developmental Summary: Millie is able to follow one step directions (ie: come here). She is also very vocal and can be heard babbling to children and adults throughout the day.
June 2009: When asked to come here, Millie quickly comes smiling and giggling

Exploration and Early Logic

Developmental Summary: Millie loves to take part in activities around the room. Whenever a planned activity is set up, Millie is always there and ready to explore.
June 2009: During water place, Millie reaches in the bucket and grasp the toy. She then throws it back in the bucket to make a splash.

You think she is ready?

She seems to think she is! Maybe she will learn at next week's Grandparent Camp!

Let the parties begin!

Enjoy 10 mins of Millie eating her Crumbs cupcake!
Be sure to hit the red "HD" button and hit pause once it starts playing to let it load for a min (big file) so you won't get the pause when watching.

July 12th Birthday Party

We threw a little impromptu birthday party for Millie on Sunday. Really, it was a reason to get together with friends and family. The guests included several friends of Mat's from high school and college. Ant and Winnie have little Emily. Betsy and Nardi have the twins, Max and Leo. And high school friend Christian and his wife Shelly have Preston, Madelyn and Meredith. Several fabulous family came over as well. It was so nice to see everyone! Mat was telling me he has great memories playing in the front lawn of his Grandmothers house. He was so excited to be doing the same thing with Millie. Click here for pictures
